Using a state-of-the-art Storz Modulith SLX-F2, the only one of its kind in all of South Texas located at Mission Regional Medical Center, lithotripsy is a non-invasive treatment that requires no incision to treat this condition.
During a lithotripsy procedure, a special machine known as a lithotripter sends shockwaves directly toward the kidney stone. The waves pass through the skin and muscles of the back, and the force of the repeated shockwaves ultimately shatters the stone into sand, which is then flushed out in the urine.
Lithotripsy takes approximately 30 minutes, with a short period following the procedure for rest and recovery. Patients will not need to stay overnight and can usually resume normal activities within a day or two.
Patients treated with the lithotripter at Mission Regional Medical Center under Dr. Salameh's care will also be accompanied by an anesthesiologist and a certified lithotripsy specialist to assure you the highest quality and effectiveness of care.
